Question 4
Who would be the audience for your Media product?
In my mission statements i said that my target audience would be from the age of 13-24 which was a wide audience to work across placing them also in the youth interested in pop music. As i aimed my audience at this age range and both genders, it allows for my magazine to be appealing to a bigger audience which also means it would be distributed further than if i chose a smaller audience range. Pop was something that appealed more to the female gender but it is growing to the male gender as well so aiming towards both genders wouldn't be an issue with my chosen category. my magazine pages relating to that of Q is something that helps this run smoothly as Q aims at both male and female audiences so having a similar style and design will help this. - I believe that my magazine appeals to all the needs of the reader. The mood board that i had created also shows this -

e in depth topics that the older generation (20-24) would enjoy reading -David Bowies predictions. it also relates to their platforms of music listening, Spotify and Apple music. the front cover advertises the multi platform format that the magazine has indicating they can "keep on top of the charts at www.MusicNow.com" allowing them to us the internet to keep up top date with news and the charts.
My double page spread allows the consumers learn about the heart felt emotions of the young artist letting them get to know him a bit better. audiences of that age like to feel they know someone famous and as they artist is around the age range that my magazine is aimed at it allows them to feel this after reading the article themselves.
Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your magazine?
For my decision on who i would want to publish my magazine i wanted it to be one that would want to publish my magazine. For this i decided on what magazine mine most related to, this being Q. Their publishing contract is with Bauer, Europe's biggest publishing group. They have 19,000,000 people viewing 80 of their brands with an included audience of 2 in 5 people who experience at least one of their products whether it being a magazine or even their website. My magazine colour scheme also matches that of what Bauer commonly publish which is why i would go with them.
From their massive amount of experience, i believe they would be the best company to go with to help my magazine really grow.
For who i would want to distribute my magazine, i would go with that of front line as they are the biggest distributing company in the UK alone. Again, they distribute Q and as my magazine is similar to the style of Q i think it would fit the profile of their commonly distributed magazines. as they are so successful i think to not go with them wouldn't be a beneficial move as they could provide a wider audience to distribute out to.

Question 2
How does the Media Product represent a particular social group?
at the beginning of the research process I began to look at magazines that helped me decide several ideas for my main images and subsidiary images. I wanted to appeal to a R&B/Pop audience which was ained at people aged from 16-21, which meant i needed to somehow show that social group within my magazine.
My main image was taken form ideas given to me by friends as i asked what they wanted to see from an artist who's lyrical ideas were somewhat explicit. I saw an image of an artist on a Kerrang magazine which really caught my eye as it had hotshots captioned with a camera in the artists hand which displayed his background and figured that i may be able to do something with this for my artist as there is a lot of history for my artist that i can implement throughout my magazine in various ways.
My initial idea was to have only a guitar covering the artists face but then discovered i could play about with the social group my artist is from by implementing more of his musical styles in the one image, this is where i added the explicit sign and guitar together representing the truth behind his lyrics and how meaningful they are. This outlines the whole style of R&B and Pop as, if you listen to the charts now, every song has an explicit version from the artist or is very acoustic with solely a guitar and drum. These also represent one of the biggest music icons that is out there. The text i have used is also that of which is similar to Kerrangs font style making it seem more like a pop magazine as it stands out. My use of advertisement is also essential for giving this effect as they are popular music streaming software used more commonly by teens. As they are my primary target for my audience it allows me to place the magazine in their social group.

My contents page was taken from the idea used by Q where several images were used representing what could be found inside, these artists were fitting to the social context of pop and this is where i got my inspiration to use multiple artists to represent the magazines social construct. it allowed me to use images i had taken of a couple of people who i had planned to be my main artist but didn't quite offer what i needed but still fit in the style of a pop artist that appealed to a youth like audience. Q's magazine showed artists at Gigs and festivals which is appealing to 16-21 year old so i decided to use this as an idea to take photos of my artists in musically identified locations that the pop audience could relate to.
To represent the social group i was aiming for i also made sure i implemented common use of technology used by them frequently, like Spotify and Apple Music to allow them to relate to the magazine wanting them to read much more. i also tried to draw their attention further by placing competition opportunities to win free subscriptions to their main source of music. I provided them with news events on gigs which would allow them to prepare for the events which again crosses into keeping my magazine into their social context. Each artist represents the social group as they're young artists which is where every aspiring musician wants to be, therefore, having them in the magazine allows them to read of their success stories.

My second draft of my article included the heading and a opening paragraph to establish my artist on a whole. I have also included the artists inspiration to get it much more like a published magazine article
Drop out to Sell Out
Born in
Detroit and raised in the slums, college dropout Jack Smite was born in to the
darkness being as far away from a shot of fame as any one person can be. This
all changed a year ago now owning one of the largest selling records in the US
with his album “One Life”. Powered by his past he’s here to show what music is
all about. Find out more information on Jack in Music Now with an Exclusive
interview.
Born in the depths of Detroit at the St. Johns Hospital and
Medical Centre, Jack was raised from the slums with no insight as to what his
life was going to be like when he grew up and graduated from school. His hopes
and ambitions pushed him for a better life after being raised by a single mum
who struggled with day to day activities.
From the age of 12 he had discovered his profound love for
music getting his first ever guitar for Christmas where he began to adapt his musical
ability; self-teaching chords and writing lyrics for his music classes which,
unlike his other subjects, he excelled in coming out with top grades and
performing in school shows as a solo performance with songs he had written. As
the years went on and he graduated from high school, Jack went on to study
music at Wayne County Community College where he studied for one year until
dropping out, as he grew tired of the course not offering what he wanted out of
life with his musical ability. It wasn’t until two years later where he got
recognised for his musical talent after starting up a YouTube channel back in
2014. From there on was a turnaround for his life as he released a debut single
in summer 2015 which sold over 2.3 million copies to date and in its first week
sold 900,000 in its first week on sale. This was a stepping stone for Jack as
he is now one of the biggest names in music in the U.S as he is about to
release his first album “Alone in the Dark” which features 3 of his top songs
“Reach out for the Title”, “Keep going”, “Forgive” with his U.K number 1 “Mamma
don’t leave” which tells the heart wrenching story of his mother’s struggle
through his upbringing.
With our exclusive interview we managed to get a much more
in-depth look into his life and the album he’s releasing.
Coming from such a rough area, getting to grips with his
album was important to him as it “hits close to home” he tells to us. The title
of the album itself is an important process he went through as a teen,
struggling form depression it really opened his eyes on the real world and
helped him realise who his true friends were and still are, “Growing up as an
only child you don’t really have someone to open yourself up to, there was always
my mother but she was going through enough as it was so I would usually turn to
being alone until my best friend, Kyle, actually approached me about it one day
and guided me into the light if you’d like, That’s basically what the song for
the album title is about, it’s a dedicated song to him really”
During the interview, we learned about how jack would “sit
at home and just listen to artists” of which would really touch him with
lyrical meanings. One of these being Ed Sheeran who was a new artist himself a
few years ago, but, despite having a love for Ed’s music, his biggest
inspiration for song writing was the script and he particularly related to “If
you could see me now” as it spoke about missing a father. Both artists had
lyrics that put Jack into a mind-set of wanting to write about personal matters
and that’s what sparked the creation of the singer/song writer we know and
love.
Jack features a multiple array of dedicated songs throughout
his album to “give back” to the people who really helped him and for those who
he had lost along the way due to a lot of moving. The one song to really be
spoken about though is “Mamma Don’t Leave” which really draws in on the
emotional input Jack has to his music writing. Jack really opened up about this
song as he had so much to say about it: “It’s one that really hits me,
personally, in the heart. There isn’t anyone I care for more in the world than
her (Sam) and the fact that I’m able to have something published to the world
about her for everyone to see how much of an amazing person she is just really
takes my breath away. The things she’s been through is so much for anyone to
handle mentally and I honestly think if anyone else were to experience it all
they’d lose their sanity”
An overlook of the whole album shows just what the newly
formed star is capable of and how far his music will go. His Album goes on sale
10th February 2017 and is looking up for a high hitter with a fan
base larger than previous stars who have had U.K number 1s. The album will be
available for Hard Disc copies and Downloadable via the app store and google
Play store, or alternatively you can go and get a sneak peek at one of his new
songs on our live studio page on our website at www.musicnow.com
My first draft for my article, it included important information about the artist like a standard conventional magazine article, the important inclusion I need to add is where my artist got his inspiration from.

The plans for my double page and contents when I first decided on what I wanted to have my magazine to look like. some amendments will have been made, but the overall design is how I wanted it to be with photo placements and pull quotes. the biggest change was the double page spread where I re-evaluated how I wanted the overall lay out. I changed the photo positioning to allow more space for my article and pull quotes making it look more like a double page spread I saw in a copy of a Q magazine which was more conventional.

My final Product for my Double Page Spread is done, I've changed the bordered colour scheme to optimize the images and make them stand out more and also to follow my colour scheme again like my front cover. i sorted the issue of the apostrophe not being able to be added by using the full word which actually filled some dead space in the pull quote box. i also tweaked the word layout in the top right of the picture so that all the words fit perfectly onto their lines without being hyphened across.

After viewing my images, i decided i wanted to use all of them to be able to show off my artist thoroughly, i used the 'nostalgic' image as my main article image displaying in the top right why the photo was taken and the significance of it. Due to the pictures being moved about, i chose a new layout for my article, it now spreads under the photo and next to it with my pull quote sitting on the edge of the image which i had inspiration from an issue of one of Q's magazines. The yellow compliments the black text well and this helps it stand out, although my font style hasn't allowed for me to add an apostrophe which doesn't look very good so i will have to try and work a way around this issue without changing the font style as it is one i particularly like as it enhances the choice of style my magazine is. each photo is separated by a border to give the page a more organised look.
i had a range of photos to use for my Double Page Spread article but the may need me to change my design of how my article is placed in the pages themselves. This is down to how i want the image to be viewed, i much prefer the top image as it shows him in a sense of nostalgic past in his home town which is the type of image i want to have for my artist.
I've added my magazine logo for the reason of showing that its the magazine MusicNow! as well as adding the red colour scheme to the drop text and introduction text going with my main colour scheme of black and red. Ive also kept the design of having my text on the left allowing room for my image on the right.
The start of my double page spread involved inserting my article and creating the header as well as my overall layout. I started with my article on the left to put my main image on the left but had yet to decide how i want my photo which may cause a change in my layout but i like how the article fits on the page. My heading has highlighted Achiever to show the emphasis of achieving relating to the struggle of my artist.
After total amendments i have reached my final product. I kept everything the same but added the spotify and Apple Music logos to show what music apps support the magazine and promote them in the magazine. Overall the magazine cover is how i would have hoped for it to turn out, the text is clear and i managed to sort out the issue of lost text in the sub text. I added the white background to make the black text stand out.
After inserting the photo i was able to work around what i had and see what needed adjusting. i started by changing my sell lines completely, i re-imagined their colour scheme and font to make them stand out further and decided to keep the red seperators. the black jumper used has helped resolve the issue of losing the sub text but i still have a loss of text which will need to be sorted for my final product. One of the most successful parts of the cover is the "parental advisory" sticker which i've managed to place in the hand of my artist to display that his lyrics are explicit adding meaning to his songs.
I needed to take some new photos for my front cover that had to fit with the design that i was going for. i had my artist prepare for them wearing the clothes i asked and with the props i needed, the photos turned out as well as planned and allowed for me to use them creating the perfect image that i need
After consideration about my main artist i decided to change him to get a style that i think would work for my artist of choice and have a new approach to how they looked as a whole. During the waiting process to get my photos i changed my Header to look more appealing and pleasing, added a layout design to keep everything in form and created a logo. At the top i have also added additional features to make the magazine come to life and enhanced the pug to make it stand out a bit more. at the bottom though i've run into the issue of loosing my text .
i've began to add the sell lines and try to tidy them up to allow them to stand out more. i chose the red dividers to make them a little more obvious to draw attention over to the sell lines them selves. The issue i have is that the colour scheme doesn't work entirely well, i need to find a new scheme that will stand out more.

My magazine cover is coming long but I have a few issues with my main image as, although he portrays the emotion of my artist it isn't as good as I want it to be, this means I need to retake a main image to get the perfect picture. My Splash is appealing and stands out with the opposite colours that i've used. I still need to add my pull quotes but they will go along the same style as the splash. My pug is also in need of a bit of redesigning as its pixelated and quite blurred.
Friday, 10 February 2017
This is a much more developed idea of my front cover just without any added sell lines but you're able to see how much development on my previous ideas have come through, the main image is how id want it to be as It displays the way I want people to see my artist, the splash for the artists name is a display of how I want my text to be formatted through the sell lines. More development is needed on my PUG as the purple clashes with the red and greys. Overall the progress made for the magazine I'm happy with.
My second draft I have re-designed both the footer and the header and put a new colour lay out for the design. The white back ground allows for a more darker approach to the text which will need experimenting on to see if it will fit with my main image. The blue gradient adds a more professional effect to the cover but it may overwhelm any additional light colours so may result in a new change again. The font for my mast head has changed also but it seems a bit plain but at the moment it may stay the same so I can play around with different font sizes.
The first initial idea of my music magazine cover is piecing itself together, I'm currently experimenting with the different fonts to see which one is much more appealing and I'm also deciding on whether I want to keep the white background around the masthead and the red boarder. I like the grey gradient as it creates contrast and allows for lighter texts to be seen, but it's still something I am currently contemplating on having. I still have my image to add and my sell lines.
